Brain health
Brain health following the Bredesen protocol
Brain health is strongly influenced by how we live – from nutrition, sleep and stress to movement, recovery and mental stimulation. Here, we take a holistic, lifestyle-based approach following the Bredesen protocol (ReCODE), focusing on brain function and long-term balance.
A holistic perspective on the brain
Within the Bredesen approach, cognitive decline is understood as the result of multiple interacting imbalances rather than a single underlying cause. Changes in the brain are seen as adaptive responses to various forms of physiological stress.
Examples of such stress include chronic stress, low-grade inflammation, metabolic imbalance, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, and environmental and lifestyle-related factors. The ReCODE model maps these areas to provide a clearer overall picture.
Lifestyle at the centre
At the heart of ReCODE is a lifestyle-based approach focused on:
- nutrition and blood sugar balance
- sleep and circadian rhythm
- physical activity
- stress regulation and mental training
- nutritional status
- minimising burdensome environmental factors
Any supplements or other interventions are considered complementary. The emphasis is always on sustainable lifestyle choices and strengthening the body's and brain's own resilience over time.
What is ReCODE?
ReCODE (Reversal of Cognitive Decline) is the structured application of the Bredesen model. The approach is used internationally in lifestyle medicine, wellness and precision health to create individually tailored plans.
The work begins with a systematic review of the lifestyle factors that affect the brain's environment. A personal plan is then developed from the overall picture and tailored to your goals, needs and circumstances.
Testing as a supporting tool
Testing is used as an assessment tool to understand which lifestyle-related factors may affect brain health – for example, metabolic balance, inflammation, nutritional status, hormonal influences, and biological or environmental strain.
The results are used to prioritise lifestyle measures such as diet, sleep, stress regulation, nutrition and recovery. Testing is not used for medical diagnosis.
Complementary support
Other supportive methods can be incorporated as a complement, such as light-based brain optimisation through photobiomodulation. Read more about brain optimisation with light.
My role as a certified ReCODE coach
I am a certified ReCODE coach and guide you through the process from a lifestyle and wellness perspective. My role is to help you structure, prioritise and review lifestyle changes that may create better conditions for brain function over time.
